While this JET saw beats its closest competitor on price, it also offers some advantages in terms of design and construction. Placing the quick-connect electrical plug right at the saw so the user doesn't have to search out the wall socket for every blade change is just one small example of JET's attention to detail. The stand for this saw is made of a heavy-gauge metal, and features a hinged motor cover and a 4- inch dust port for easy connection to a dust-collection system. A change in the hole pattern on the fence rails means lefties can shift the set up to their preference. The left-tilting arbor is another mark in this saw's favor. Tilting the blade away from the fence negates the need for a sacrificial fence and reduces the risk of the piece binding under the blade. This saw's most impressive feature is the smooth action of the blade height-adjustment mechanism. Not only will users save their wrists and knuckles, but they'll also save time by being able to crank the blade to the exact height necessary with vastly fewer test runs for every rabbet, dado, tongue, and groove. Finally, we really appreciate JET's use of totally enclosed fan-cooled motors on this and every other saw the company makes. While this may add a little to the final cost of the saw, the extra life and reliability this gives the motors is well worth it. This saw is an excellent choice in its price range. --Nancy Gleason

NOT TEFC IN ANY WAY:
Just out of warranty I took this 3hp motor to the repair shop. It kept tripping the breaker. He said he never experienced so much saw dust inside a motor in his life. Packed in tight. This is 'NOT' A Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled motor. It has a space between the wiring connection box at the ground wire that draws saw dust in. The claims that this is TEFC are false to the point of deceptive. I am so disappointed in the import choices we have been forced to except as the industry standard. Powermatic, Jet,... more info
junk motors:
the motor is junk. less than three years with light use, two run capacitors it funally quit working. no other motor fits. Ok I will buy one from jet what other choice do I have. The next problem is a new motor is 6 weeks on back order. Must be going through a lot of them. I cant wait to much business will be lost. so i took the leeson motor off my planer made an adapter plate at the local welding shop and reamed the pulley to fit the leeson motor. LASTJET TOOL I OR ANY ONE I KNOW WILL EVER BUY
It's a dream:
I replaced a 15 year old Craftsman contractors saw that I had tweaked and adjusted until I thought it was as good as it could be. I had replaced the belt with a link belt, the pulleys with a set a friend had machined, and added the trunnion adjuster from In-Line Industries. I was satisfied with the results until... The delivery of my new Jet was prompt and courteous. The trucking company scheduled delivery for 1:oo pm, and I was called by the driver 3 times before the delivery to update me on the... more info
Great Saw / Poor Motor:
I bought my saw in March 2003. It has not had heavy usage. I think the overall quality of the saw is good (flat table, fence in line out of the crate, vibration practically non-existant, large handwheels, good fit and finish and good power). The motor is the exception to the quality. It is cheaply made and failed in the middle of a project. I replaced the start capacitor (it had overheated and was leaking oil) and upon startup, the motor lost rpm, stopped and completely blew out the replacement start... more info
