"A major decision about me is being made, and no one's bothered to ask the one person who most deserves it to speak her opinion." The only reason Anna was born was to donate her cord blood cells to her older sister. And though Anna is not sick, she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since she was a child. Anna was born for this purpose, her parents tell her, which is why they love her even more. But now that she has reached an age of physical awareness, she can't help but long for control over her own body and respite from the constant flow of her own blood seeping into her sister's veins. And so she makes a decision that for most would be too difficult to bear, at any time and at any age. She decides to sue her parents for the rights to her own body.

Different from the movie:
Often, they say that the book is better than the movie; however, for me, the book and movie My Sister's Keeper were so different that it is hard to reason out which version is better. In my opinion, the novel is better at developing the characters. The connection that I as a reader had with the characters in the novel versus the movie was better. What was the connection? Why not just drop a bomb and be done?:
The first page hooked me in Costco's, and I bought the book with a B&N gift card. Shoudl have saved my money. See, the thing is, Jodi Picoult seems to have a recipe for a book. illness + family battle + someone sues + tragic lawyer backstory + random ending. I just recently read her book Handle with Care. And, after reading my sister's keeper, I was able to call the ending to Handle With Care before i even started. Basically, she seems to have a thing for long books. We did NOT need... more info
Jodi never disappoints:
You sort of know going into this book that it's going to be sad. Jodi does a great job of portraying each of the characters accurately. I truly could put myself in each of their shoes and understand some of what they may be going through. I haven't seen the movie yet, but it cannot possibly be as good as this book!
My Sister's Keeper was one of the best books I have read.:
My Sister's Keeper was a terrific book. I loved the fact that the people narrating the book kept on switching to different characters. I liked this because you got to see everyone's side of the story. I enjoyed how the reader got to see what happened when the daughter, Kate, first got cancer in the early '90's. Sara, the mom, narrated this part. I saw the movie, My Sister's Keeper, before I read the book. I loved the movie when I first saw it, but after I read the book, I learned the movie sucked. The movie... more info
