I love this series of books on farming. While some may see Salatins books as a bit strange, I find them very informative and inspiring. He stress how to be successful in faming in a no nonsense way. He stirves to show you economical ways to farm without breaking the bank. If you have ever farmed you will appreciate this book. While everything in this book won't work for everyone it will inspire you on how to make the best use of what you do have and to keep your mind open to the possiblities of farming... more info
Earthmother hippies beware!:
I wouldnt have Joel Salatin over for dinner, if you know what I mean. He'd be THAT guest. He comes across as a nutcase nightmare straight out of the Great Depression. BUT- Joel Salatin is a genius, and his book was part of what pushed us into farming. If you are trying to figure out if farming, or even homesteading, is for you- then this is the book you need. Joel Salatin has at least 20 years of successful farming behind him. and i mean farming where the land has not only not been damaged, but improved. in sharp contrast to traditional farming methods.
he also produces clean healthy food that tastes better than most people have ever tasted. whole generations of people dont even know what real food tasted like, before factory/concentration camp style feedlots and chicken houses were invented.
