Volume II is aimed at two distinct categories of readers: 1) Intermediate players who are ready for a wider range of rhythms to study and use in live playing situations; and 2) Experienced congueros who have digested Volume I and now seek to understand the roots of the modern Cuban conga style. Having assimilated the material in Volume I, the student should be able to play basic Son Montuno, Salsa, Chachachá, and Bolero. Volume II moves on to Guaguanc", Iyesá, 6/8, Changüí, Afro, Mozambique, Pil"n, Songo, Merengue, Bomba, Cumbia and other rhythms that a professional conguero will be expected to know. Each rhythm is accompanied by an article reflecting on its history and role in the "big picture" of Latin music and offering listening recommendations. Like Volume I, it uses the Step by Step DVD Method. A special 8-page appendix explains the often infuriatingly complex subject of "clave" with an unprecedented level of clarity and insight.

Tomasito's book/DVD: Thoughtful/Brilliant:
I have played congas for many years, and I'm always looking for new and creative ways to learn. By far this is the best package for someone interested in learning to play congas. Tomas Cruz's book/DVD is comprehensive, well produced, and easily allows a novice to develop the skills and learn the patterns of many traditional rhythms. The text also gives a wonderful history of the music and excellent recommendations of different music groups to learn more about the patterns. For beginners, start with vol. 1... more info
Excellent Product:
I have 3 other instructional video's, 2 intructional CD's and 2 other books. This by far is the best. I learned the first rhythm in about 25 min. I have been playing for about 4 years now so the intermediate book was perfect for me. However, I plan to get all three volume's. I would highly recommed this to anyone who wants to learn how to play The Conga. The instruction is at a pace that anyone can follow. This will actually save me some money on my private lessons. Don't tell my teacher.
Awesome Method:
I have to say this is the best method to learn real afrocuban rhytms. Tomas Cruz is a master percussionist with a great tone and clean technigue this is the real deal.
Tomás Cruz Conga Method:
I have tried many different books on Congas and I have never found one that could have me playing a new rhythm in such minimal time. Not only is this book easy but it explains the history of the music so well. This is the highest caliber instructional book and DVD on this subject you will find. I am most definitely a fan! I also think if your going to learn to play the Congas you should study a book written by a Cuban, I would recommend this Product highly!
