Throughout seven prior editions, "CTP" has defined the field of psychiatry. Every edition has garnered accolades from the highest levels of psychiatry, and established the text as the authoritative text for the specialty. Carefully edited to include definitions and diagnostic criteria of mental disorders used in ICD-10 and the DSM-IV-TR, the Eighth Edition features approximately 450 contributors and section editors. A wealth of new information and updated coverage makes the Eighth Edition an essential cornerstone for every psychiatric practice. New information includes information on post-traumatic stress disorder after the attacks of September 11, 2001, and updated information on the many new psychotropic drugs.

review of the book of psychiatry by saddock and kaplan:
This book is not as useful as the synopsis of psychiatry by the same author. It seems to me that it is written for commercial purpose and not to communicate information. Thats because some of the text in the synopsis is reproduced in the comprehensive text about psychiatry. Taking its high price i do not recommend it for you to buy it.
Yes, it's worth the money.:
This is probably the best reference/text to be found concerning psychiatry (and related fields). Anyone in a behavioral science field could benefit from this 2 volume, 55 chapter text. Excellent information, case studies, algorithms, tables & figures, & DSM-IV-TR/ICD-10 dx criteria, etc. A major shortcoming is the index. the bible for the psychiatrist:
If you are in psychiatry, then you know that this is the basic textbook of psychiatry training. If you are a medical student (unless you are going into psychiatry), this book is to comprehensive as a reference, and I strongly recommend the 10th edition synopsis book, which itself is around 1500 pages. Great product:
This CD is very easy to navigate and it holds the whole
2-volume text of Kaplan and Sadock's textbook. The textbook is the smartest and most coplete book that I ever encounted in murky field of Psych.
As for myself, it is much easier to scroll the computer screen than glean into such heavy printed manual as K&S's.
