ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription began as a concise summary of recommendations for exercise testing and prescription primarily for cardiac patients; it has now become one of the single most internationally read and referenced texts of its kind. This reference is a virtual pharmacopoeia of exercise guidelines in a broad spectrum of patients. In this new edition there is heightened emphasis on preventing illness in apparently healthy persons and those "at risk", as well as treating patients with chronic disease. There are also two new chapters on methods for changing exercise behavior and legal issues.

This is a GREAT review manual...I had purchased the 7th Edition and this 5th addition...great resources, and it covers a LOT of material...I will complete the reading this winter, on a snowy day ;) Good price, nice book, FAST shipping w/ Amazon!

This book appears to be a pretty darn good resource for fitness prescription and testing. I have read much of it and it is pretty well written and quite clinical. So if that's what you need, then this book is it.
However, I was intending to get books to study for the ACSM Personal Trainer certification. This is NOT the book for that. Now granted, they recommend this book on their website, and it may be helpful, but the intended primary study source is the ACSM's resources for the personal... more info
