Now with hundreds of new images, this core text focuses on the two main divisions within sonography: general/abdominal and obstetric/gynecologic. It also provides coverage of vascular ultrasound and an introduction to echocardiography. While the abdominal and vascular sections are organized by body systems, OB/GYN uses a chronologic approach to development during pregnancy and an anatomic approach to gynecologic pathology. Each chapter covers patient history; normal anatomy, including cross-sectional anatomy; ultrasound techniques; pathology; and related laboratory findings.
Ultrasound Tips offer practical, easy-to-find information on scanning techniques.
Full-color presentation includes line art, design, and color scans, enhancing the visual appeal and teaching value of the text.
Key Terms and Definitions at beginning of each chapter highlight the most important information.
Chapter Objectives and Review Questions open each chapter, and short-answer and essay questions are provided at the end.
New chapters cover the following: · Introduction to Physical Findings includes assessment, lab values, and disease principles as they relate to sonography · Contrast Applications in the Abdomen · Invasive/Intraoperative Procedures in the Abdomen · Emergent Ultrasound Procedures · Musculoskeletal System · Neonatal Hips · Neonatal Spine · Sonographic Evaluation for Infertility · Sonographic 3D/4D Evaluation of Fetal Anomalies

Good textbook, but double-check info:
This is a good textbook if you have other resources available to double-check the information. The main problem I found with this book is that it tends to contradict itself, which can be quite frustrating for a student who is preparing for a test. For instance, the text will tell you that a certain condition usually presents as a single lesion, but the table right next to it says that same condition usually presents as a multiple lesion. This doesn't happen all the time, but it is more often than I would... more info
Great Textbook for Diagnostic Ultrasonography:
I have read the previous edition of this book. Compare the fourth edition, several improvements have been made in this edition: Each chapter begins with a list of key terms and definitions. Color illustrations and layout are used. A lot of new ultrasound images are added and the qualities of these images are much better. The text has been retrenched. Important points are put in tables for differentiation. Even there are still a few mistakes in this edition, I believe this is a great book.
Pertinence to the field of sonography:
We have instructed over twenty thousand professionals in diagnostic ultrasound and have found this text to be essential to any ultrasound practice. We recommend this text to each of our beginning and intermediate students, regardless of specialty of training or professional experience. Sandra has, over the years, consistently compiled a comprehensive reference for immediate and referential use. You will find it useful from the first day in the field, and for years afterward. Although it is by no means a... more info
